A Guide to a Good Night’s Sleep

People say the next best thing after sliced bread is a good night’s sleep. Well, at least that’s the Altair team philosophy. While we may not be certified experts in the best sleep routine, we’ve learned a few tips and tricks that could come in handy the next time you’re laying wide awake in bed thinking about all the embarrassing things you said that day. Or more importantly, thinking about what you’re going to wear tomorrow. 

Even better, we’ve got a cute matching pajama set ready for any sleep scenario, whether you’re winding down with a 10-step routine or crashing into bed and calling it a day. This guide to a good night’s sleep is sure to soothe you right into a peaceful (and fashionable) slumber.

Tip 1: Hydrate

Time to put those 40 oz tumblers to use! This may come as a surprise to some, but water does more than just keep you alive. Did you know that it’s recommended you drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water per day? Now, that’s a lot of water. Hydrating before bedtime is key to getting a restful night’s sleep so you’re feeling fresh and rejuvenated at sunrise- or whatever time your body decides to wake up.

Tip 2: Establish a Skin Care Routine 

A good skin care routine may not be the secret to getting a full eight hours of sleep every night, but we can speak from personal experience that it definitely plays a vital role in relaxing the body and mind. Whether you’ve got a go-to list of your tried and true favorites or you’re experimenting with face masks, red light therapy, and everything in between, a good nighttime skin care routine could make the difference between feeling relaxed or restless. 

Here are some of our favorite skin care products that help us feel cleansed and ready for a long night in bed:

Don’t let doom scrolling take you hostage. Letting go of technology is not for the weak, but we know it can make you stronger in the morning. We recommend shutting down all electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Instead, take some extra time to do these easy wind-down activities:

  • Journal
  • Phone a friend

Tip 4: Meditate 

We’ve talked a lot about how to calm the body, but what about calming the mind? That’s where meditation comes in. Sometimes the thought of sitting in silence can seem overwhelming, and may even produce the opposite effect that we want. Luckily, there’s many ways you can meditate to best suit you and your surroundings. 

Meditation doesn’t have to be boring. Some of our favorite ways to calm ourselves can be through listening to lo-fi music, practicing breathing exercises, or simply laying on the floor in a dark room. Find what works best for you and set aside 5 minutes every night to do it. You’ll be on your way to cloud nine in no time. Up your meditation game by doing it in dreamy and cozy loungewear. We don’t consider ourselves professionals in the health industry, but we do know a thing or two about feeling good- especially when it comes to feeling good about our bodies when nobody else is looking.

Tip 7: Set the Scene

Now that we’ve done the work to prep our bodies and minds for a soothing night ahead, it’s time to prep our environment. The best thing to keep in mind is to cultivate a space that doesn’t overwhelm you but rather, relaxes you. Some of our favorite things to include in our bedroom for a truly calming experience are a humidifier, dimmed lighting with bedside lamps or twinkle lights, plush rugs or pillows, and cooling bed sheets. 

Make your bedroom your safe space. There’s nothing worse than coming home ready to hit the sack and then realizing you have a mountain of laundry on your floor, sheets in an upheaval, messy countertops, and overflowing nightstand drawers of long-lost, forgotten items. Take time to tidy up so you can really shut your brain off when your head hits the pillow.
